WINTER ATTRACTIONS OF YEREVAN AND SURROUNDINGS

      10.11.18

The capital of Armenia and the surrounding districts are distinguished by quite mild winter weather; you will never see heavy snowfalls here. The thermometer column rarely drops below -10 degrees, and usually weather is quite warm and dry during all winter. Therefore, Yerevan in winter is quite suitable for walks and visiting main attractions at any time of the day. In addition, many significant sights are located relatively close to the capital, and excursions, even in winter, are available every day.

What to see in Yerevan in the winter?

Yerevan is no less attractive in winter than in any other time of the year. All tourists and local citizens are welcomed in all museums of the city. You can visit repository of ancient manuscripts Matenadaran, The National Gallery of Armenia, Sergei Parajanov Museum or Modern Art Museum. If you want to get acquainted with the history of Armenia, you can go The History Museum of Armenia or the Armenian Genocide memorial complex. You should take a city tour and admire places of interest “under the open sky” in clear weather, see Republic Square and walk along Northern Avenue, and then go up to Cascade; from the top of the viewing platform you will see the breathtaking view of the city and Mount Ararat.

      New Year’s holidays in Armenia

New Year and Christmas, perhaps, are the most beloved holidays in Armenia. Yerevan starts to “dress up” to New Year’s holiday in November: city shopping malls, shops, cafés and restaurants “wear” sparkling clothes. The entire pre-holiday Yerevan shines with bright colourful lights in the evenings towards the middle of December: holiday decorations and Christmas trees are set in the districts of the city, the largest and most luxurious of which, of course, is located in the center of the city – in the Republic Square.

Northern Avenue turns into a merry New Year’s Fair – one of the brightest attractions of the pre-holiday capital. Having decided to celebrate New Year holidays in Yerevan, you can have a wonderful time in one of the local restaurants where you will certainly be offered a rich variety of national and other dishes. You can also just go out, take part in general festivities and plunge into the magical atmosphere of New Year’s holidays.

Our agency will offer you tours that include excursions to the main sights “under the open sky”: the ancient pagan temple Garni, Geghard monastery or Etchmiadzin Mother Cathedral. To admire winter nature and stunning sceneries you can have an excursion to Lake Sevan. A trip to the ski resort Tsakhkadzor will give you the opportunity to spend and enjoy the whole day on the snowy slopes sledging, skiing or snowboarding.
