      In this tour we will visit some important excavations in the territory of Armenia. The first excavations in Armenia were led by historian and archaeologist Alexander Yeritsyan: he excavated 23 tombs dated to the early iron age near Akner village in 1871. Archaeology is a historical discipline that studies the past of mankind on such physical sources as the settlement buildings, weapons, jewelry, dishes, artwork.

      Arrival - Yerevan city tour - History Museum of Armenia

      Transfer for the airport to the hotel. Breakfast. Observing city tour in Yerevan. During this tour you will get acquainted with the main buildings and the main streets. We will visit History Museum of Armenia. It has a national collection of 400,000 objects. 35% of the main collection is made up of archaeology related items, 8% of the collection is made up of Ethnography related items, Numismatics related items make up 45%, and 12% of the collection is made up of documents. The collection is being enriched due to the excavations in Armenia. Welcome dinner at traditional Armenian restaurant with folk program (Armenian national songs and dances). (B, L, D)

      Yerevan - Erebuni Museum - Shengavit excavations

      Breakfast in the hotel. We will visit Erebuni museum. The Museum stands at the foot of the Arin Berd hill, on top of which the Urartian Fortress Erebouni has stood since 782 BC. The City-fortress was excavated, some parts of the structure were reinforced and restored, and the fortress was turned into an outdoor museum. The next place we will visit is the archaelogical  site of Shengavit. (B, L, -)

      Overnight: Yerevan

      Yerevan - Garni - Geghard - Yerevan

      Breakfast in the hotel. We will visit Garni, the only pagan temple left in the territory of Armenia. It is a peripteros (a temple surrounded by a portico with columns) built on an elevated podium. It is a blend of Greco-Roman and Armenian styles built by King Trdat I in the first century A.D. and dedicated it to the God of Sun. we will have lunch in one of the villagers' house. Then we will visit Geghard monastery carved out of the adjacent mountain and initially called Ayrivank (the Monastery of the Cave ) is included in the World Heritage Site. Due to the fact that the famous spear, with which the Roman soldier wounded Jesus, was kept here for 500 years, the monastery was called Geghardavank (the Monastery of the Spear). On the way back to Yerevan we will have a stop near Charets' Arch, from where a breathtaking view opens to the Mount Ararat. (B, L, -)

      Yerevan - Etchmiadzin - Metsamor excavations - Yerevan

      Breakfast in the hotel. Tour to Echmiadzin Cathedral. The Cathedral was built in the 4th century, when Christianity was adopted as a state religion in Armenia. the Cathedral is one of the oldest Christian cathedrals in the world. Throughout its history it has undergone many reconstructions. Initially, like other churches, it was a rectangular building, but was later rebuilt in the central-domed cathedral. Later the bell tower, the rotunda, the vestry and other buildings were built. Then we will visit Metsamor excavations, where archaeologists have founded tombs, shrines, etc. On the way to Yerevan we will have a stop at Archaeological Site of Zvartnots. (B, L, -)

      Overnight: Yerevan

      Yerevan - Dvin - Noravank - Cave Areni 1 - Yerevan

      Breakfast in the hotel. Today will drive to Vayots Dzor region, will see the excavations of Dvin. Dvin was founded in the 4th century. It quickly expanded, occupying a vast territory and becoming the capital of Armenia. Here was built the king's Palace, the Cathedral, the Palace of the Catholicos. The excavations started since 1937, and helped to fill the gaps in the development of medieval Armenian culture. Our next point will be Noravank monastery, which was the spiritual center of Armenia in the early 13th century. Architect Siranes and the remarkable sculptor and miniaturist Momik worked here. Then we will visit the cave Areni 1. The oldest leather shoe and oldest complex for wine production were found here during excavations. Back to Yerevan. (B, L, -)

      Overnight: Ереван

      Yerevan - Lake Sevan - Tsovinar (Otsaberd) - Yerevan

      Breakfast in the hotel. We will drive to lake Sevan, the largest freshwater lake in Armenia and Eurasia. When in Sevan we will visit the monastery on the peninsula, Sevanavank, and then will go to Ocaberd in Tsovinar village. Fortress Teyshebani or Otsaberd is an ancient Urartian fortress. Back to Yerevan. (B, L, -)
