1. International Children’s Day
A special, reverent attitude to children is inherent, perhaps, to all residents of Armenia, regardless of gender and age. So it is not surprising that the International Children’s Day is celebrated here in a big way. The holiday begins with a contest of children’s drawings on asphalt in the very center of Yerevan, and all interested kids can take part. During the day, fun concerts, exciting games and other events take place everywhere. You can visit the zoo and go on rides for free on this day. The celebration ends with a grand salute in the Republic Square.
2. Vardavar
Vardavar is the most beloved summer holiday in Armenia, in which all without exception take part! Coming outside on Vardavar, be ready to get wet to the skin: on this day, people pour water on each other everywhere. However, it does not cause discomfort in the July heat. Initially, the holiday was dedicated to the pagan goddess of love Astghik, it was believed that the water on this day brings health and good luck.
3. Watermelon Festival
Watermelon festival takes place near Swan Lake in the center of Yerevan in July. During the event, you can participate in various competitions, fun games, and admire the colorful masquerade parade. Guests of the festival will enjoy a concert program and, of course, a treat of ripe, sweet watermelons which will certainly be enough for everyone!
4. The mulberry festival
The mulberry festival is held in early July in the village Karahunj near the city Goris. Here you can see the process of gathering fruits and cooking traditional dishes and drinks, including the famous mulberry vodka.
5. Beer Festival
The beer festival is another fun event that is held in the center of Yerevan on Swan Lake. True experts will be able to taste many types of beer from local producers. But never mind if you are not expert, you can just relax with a large mug of icy frothy drink and enjoy pleasant music.
6. Yerevan Color Run
If you are a lover of outdoor activities, Yerevan Color Run event is exactly what you need! A crazy running festival where no special sports training is required, and everything around (including participants) is painted in the brightest colors of the rainbow! Paints that are used in Yerevan Color Run are safe for health, therefore even children can take part in the race. The holiday ends with a no less colorful, noisy party.
7. The Festival of Taraz (national clothes)
The festival of Taraz takes place in the center of Yerevan in August. Visitors of the event can see Armenian national costumes representing various provinces of historical Armenia. There are a lot of unique works, decorated with hand embroidery among the presented “Taraz”-es. Guests of the holiday are also offered an unusual photo shoot in national costumes in an authentic atmosphere.
