Ardvi village is famous for St. Hovhannes monastery, which is also called St. Hovhan Odzneci or Srbanes monastery. Saint Hovhannes was a theologian, outstanding thinker, reformer, religious and public figure. During his lifetime, he was called Hovhannes the Wise, later he was ranked a saint by Armenian Apostolic Church. There are two churches and a bell tower in the monastery complex. Visitors can see also khachkars, ruins of household buildings and dwellings here.
The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to St. Hovhannes Monastery in Ardvi by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country. Hovhan Odzneci decided to leave his catholicosal activities in 726 and returned from Dvin to Odzun. He decided to construct a small monastery 6 km south-west from Odzun village. He said, 'Sa ara, Dviny tvi' (This I got, Dvin I gave) which later became Ardvi.
Ardvi monastery is also famous for being a shooting place for a renown Armenian director Sergei Parajanov's movie 'The Color of Pomegranates'.
