As part of this special tour, we will go to the village of Vernashen, from where we will start our pilgrimage to the Spitakavor monastery, the grave of Garegin Nzhdeh. The buildings of the monastic complex, surrounded by four-sided steep gorges, are made of whitish felsite, which gave it the name “White”. On the territory of the church is the grave of national hero, ideological leader, great Armenian military leader and politician, general Garegin Nzhdeh, this is the reason why the church is also known as “Pilgrimage place of Nzdheh“.
In 1989 basalt tombstone and red tufa khachkar were installed, on which it is written:
“Peoples incapable of defending themselves with their own forces are punished with death.”
and below, as Nzhdeh wanted, it is added:
“Here rests He who acted as a living sword.”
From Spitakavor, we will walk up to the fortress of Prosh Trout (Proshaberd or Boloraberd).
It is a century-old structure and requires a steep climb to get there.
The fortress was a royal residence, the wall and pyramids were preserved, the palace of the Prussian princes and other buildings of the fortress were destroyed.
P.S. Please keep in mind, that we have about 16 km long hike of medium difficulty. Participants are advised to wear hiking shoes, suitable clothing, a protective hat, warm clothing, food and water for one day.
