About this video
The Haghpat Monastic Complex in Lori Province was founded in 976, during the reign of King Ashot III of the Bagratuni dynasty, on the elevated southeastern part of the village. Its main church, Surb Nshan (Holy Sign), was built between 970 and 991 by Queen Khosrovanush; among its preserved frescoes are an image of Christ and Gospel scenes. The complex also includes a 13th-century narthex built by Princess Mariam, the churches of St. Gregory and the Holy Mother of God, a scriptorium where ancient manuscripts were preserved and recopied, a refectory and vaulted halls that served as mausoleums. Its most notable building is the three-storey bell tower, remarkable for its architectural harmony and elegance. Travellers come to Haghpat to see its churches, frescoes, bell tower and the famous Amenaprkich khachkar. Visit the Haghpat Monastic Complex on a tour with ONE WAY Tour.
