About this video
Amberd Fortress in Aragatsotn Province is a medieval fortress-city on the southern slope of Mount Aragats. Protected by high, thick walls, it includes a castle, a bathhouse, a 10th-century chapel, an oil mill and the Katoghike Vahramashen Church. The church was built in 1026 with the sponsorship of Vahram Pahlavuni and stands at the highest central point of the fortress. Construction of Amberd was begun by the Kamsarakan family; it later passed to the Pahlavuni princes, then to the Zakarians and the Vachutians, who made it an administrative centre. Excavations here have uncovered metal objects, weapons, silver jewellery, bronze candlesticks, pottery, glassware and copper and gold coins. Travellers visit Amberd to see the Vahramashen Church and the structures of this medieval fortress-city. Explore Amberd Fortress on a tour with ONE WAY Tour.
