Tormakavank monastery or Tormak church is a 5th century structure, located 2 km south of the village of Gyulagarak in Lori province, in the place of the old settlement called Tormakadur (Vermakador). Unfortunately, there is no exact etymology of the name. The church is now ruined, only the walls are preserved. It is included in the list of the historical and cultural monuments of Gyulagarak. Tormakavank monastery has one of the original and best examples of the monumental halls of Armenian architecture.
The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to Tormakavank Monastery by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country. Due to the geographical location of Tormakavank Monastery the trip will not seem long.
The high season in Armenia lasts for a long time due to the pleasant climate conditions. Warm days in Armenia start in March and last until late autumn; winter is usually snowless and not long. The high precipitation season is variable. The tourist season for Tormakavank Monastery depends on the weather conditions.
Some episodes from the famous film “The Master and Servant” were shot in the courtyard of the church.
Before the village was named Gyulagarak, it was called Tormak, from which the name of the monastery originated.
