Jermuk City

According to the legend, once a hunter struck a young deer by an arrow. The wounded deer rushed away. Hardly moving the deer approached to the mineral springs of Jermuk and threw itself into the water. After a moment, the deer came out of the water completely healthy and healed. The hunter was surprised by the miracle of ordinary water, and since then the glory of the water "Jermuk" has spread all over the world, and the deer, who discovered to people the secret of miraculous water, has become a symbol of Jermuk.

The first historical data on the mineral water of Jermuk goes back to 189 BC, from the time of the construction of Jermuk fortress. Since ancient times, people have used the magical properties of Jermuk mineral water to treat various types of diseases.

One of the attractions of Jermuk is the "Mermaid’s hair" waterfall. There is a wonderful legend about this waterfall. According to it, the castle of an Armenian nobleman was located on the steep cliffs. He had a marvelous, beautiful daughter, and men from all over the world asked her to marry. However, she refused everyone, because her heart belonged to a brave and handsome man: shepherd’s son. Every day after midnight from the room window, the lady threw a long rope into the gorge so that her beloved one could reach her house. Once father found the rope and everything became clear to him. In anger, he cursed his daughter saying: “If you meet him again, you wil become a mermaid and stay forever in water”. Next time, the lady threw her hair instead of the rope. However, at that very moment her father’s curse became true. She became a mermaid and her hair – the waterfall.
