"Jermuk is one of Armenia’s three main resort towns, located at an altitude of 2,080 meters above sea level. The Arpa River Gorge divides the town into two parts. The first historical mention of Jermuk dates back to the 13th century, found in historian Stepanos Orbelian’s book, “History of the Province of Syunik.” Jermuk’s healing mineral waters have been famous for centuries, used by both common people and Syunik’s noble rulers to treat various illnesses. A special drinking gallery has been built in the town, where visitors can drink mineral water from several fountains, with temperatures ranging from 30°C to 50°C. Although Jermuk has a rich historical past, its modern foundation was laid in 1940 with the construction of its first health resort."

According to a legend, a long time ago, an experienced hunter shot a young deer with an arrow. The wounded deer began to run away with great effort, the hunter continued to pursue it. The deer, having reached the mineral springs of Jermuk with great difficulty, jumped into the water and came out of the water completely healthy and healed, immediately disappearing into the depths of the forest. From that day on, people began to spread the secret of the healing properties of “Jermuk” water. The deer brought to people became the beloved of the people and the symbol of Jermuk.

The deer enjoys special love in the city of Jermuk and is considered the symbol of the city. A famous statue of a deer stands on a high mountain peak, overlooking the town.

In the forest reserve of Jermuk there is a series of statues dedicated to the fedayeens, the author of which is sculptor Hovhannes Muradyan."
