Mount Ara (2577 meters above the sea level) is a polygenetic stratovolcano cone in Kotayk Province. The mountain has a high biodiversity and high variety of bird species. It is believed, the mountain is named after the king Ara the Beautiful. Many of us know the amazing story about the Armenian king Ara the Beautiful and the Assyrian Queen Shamiram. And according to the legend mount Ara is the body of Ara the Beautiful. From the distance the mountain is like a lying man.
The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to Ara Mountain by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country. Due to the geographical location of Ara Mountain the trip will not seem long.
The high season in Armenia lasts for a long time due to the pleasant climate conditions. Warm days in Armenia start in March and last until late autumn; winter is usually snowless and not long. According to the legend, the mountain was named after a beautiful king named Ara. During the battle between the Armenian and Assyrian troops, the Armenian king Ara the Beautiful placed his army just under this mountain, and the Assyrian queen Semiramis (Shamiram in Armenian), (she wanted to marry Ara the Beautiful, who rejected her offer) - under the mountain Hatis. It was here that the Armenian King, faithful to his wife Nvard, fell. By order Semiramis, the body of Armenian king was transferred to one of the caves so that gods could bring him back to life. When you look at the mountain from distance, it seems a giant lies in front of you.
