Hiking to piligrimae shrine of Nzhdeh, Spitakavor Monastery, Proshaberd Fortress
– Spitakavor Surb Astvatsatsin is an armenian monastic complex located 7km north of Vernashen village of Vayots Dzor region. The buildings of the complex are made of white felsite that is why it to be called “Spitakavor”.
– The tomb of national hero, ideological leader, great Armenian general and politician Garegin Nzhdeh is on the territory of the church. In 1989 the basalt gravestone and the red tuff khachkar were placed on the tomb on which it was engraved: “The people who can’t fight with their own forces are doomed to death”, and at the bottom is as Nzhdeh wanted: “Here is He who was like a living sword.”
In fact, besides its historical, constructive and aesthetic qualities, the church is also known as the piligrimae shrine of Nzhdeh.
– Boloraberd Fortress or Proshaberd Castle is located in Vayots Dzor province, 6-7 km north of Vernashen. It was founded in the 13th century. Bolraberd Fortress is also called Proshaberd, which means that the castle was rebuilt by prince Prosh when the Zakarians gave part of Vayots Dzor to the Proshians.
