Garni, Geghard, Lake Sevan & Dilijan Day Tour

Geghard Monastery is one of Armenia’s most remarkable medieval landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the dramatic Azat River Gorge.

Founded in the early centuries of Christianity and largely developed during the 12th–13th centuries, the monastery is especially known for its churches and chambers partially carved directly into the surrounding rock. Its name, “Geghard,” means “spear” in Armenian and refers to the Holy Lance traditionally associated with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Surrounded by steep cliffs and mountain scenery, Geghard combines exceptional medieval architecture, religious heritage, and a unique natural setting, making it one of the most memorable cultural sites in Armenia.

The Symphony of Stones is one of Armenia’s most impressive natural landmarks, located in the Azat River Gorge near Garni.

The site is famous for its massive basalt columns, formed by ancient volcanic activity and shaped over time into striking geometric patterns. The vertical rock formations resemble the pipes of a giant organ, which inspired the name “Symphony of Stones.”

Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and the scenery of the gorge, this natural monument offers a unique combination of geology and landscape and is considered one of the most distinctive natural attractions in Armenia.

Garni Temple is one of Armenia’s most distinctive historical landmarks and the country’s only surviving Greco-Roman colonnaded temple.

Built in the 1st century AD, the temple is dedicated to the pagan god Mihr and reflects the classical architectural traditions of the ancient world. Its elegant columns, symmetrical proportions, and elevated position above the Azat River Gorge make it one of the most recognizable monuments in Armenia.

The temple is part of the Garni historical complex, where visitors can also see remains of a royal palace, ancient baths, and other archaeological structures.

During the demonstration, you will see how traditional Armenian lavash is prepared by hand and baked in a tonir, a traditional clay oven. The process provides an authentic introduction to local food culture and the techniques that have been passed down through generations.

Lake Sevan is one of Armenia’s most famous natural landmarks and one of the largest high-altitude freshwater lakes in the region. Surrounded by mountains, the lake is known for its expansive blue waters, changing landscapes, and panoramic views.

Overlooking the lake is Sevanavank Monastery, founded in the 9th century on what was once an island. Today, the monastery stands on a peninsula and is reached by a staircase leading to its historic churches. From the top, visitors can enjoy some of the best views of Lake Sevan and the surrounding mountains.

Together, Lake Sevan and Sevanavank offer a memorable combination of nature, history, and Armenian medieval architecture.

Haghartsin Monastery is a medieval Armenian monastic complex located in the forested mountains near Dilijan.

The monastery was mainly built between the 10th and 13th centuries and includes several churches, chapels, and historic structures. Its architecture is known for elegant stonework, carved details, and the harmonious way the complex blends into the surrounding landscape.

Set among dense forests and mountain scenery, Haghartsin offers visitors a peaceful atmosphere and a beautiful combination of Armenian history, architecture, and nature.

Old Dilijan is the historic quarter of Dilijan, known for its traditional architecture, wooden balconies, and narrow streets that preserve the atmosphere of the town’s past.

The area reflects the character of 19th-century Dilijan and offers a glimpse into local craftsmanship, everyday life, and architectural traditions. Restored buildings now house small workshops, galleries, cafés, and souvenir shops.

A walk through Old Dilijan is a pleasant way to experience the town’s cultural heritage and distinctive mountain-town atmosphere.
