"The idea of establishing the Yerevan Zoo emerged in the 1930s, but it became a reality only in 1940. One of the main and important goals of the Yerevan Zoo is the conservation and reproduction of endangered animal species listed in the Red Book of Armenia and the International Red Book, as well as expanding with new species and new enclosures. The zoo has the following sections: predators, birds, hoofed animals, primates, and an aquaterrarium. As of 2022, the Yerevan Zoo houses 126 animal species, with a total of 707 individual animals. Cooperation with international partners is very important for the zoo."
