"Northern Avenue gets its name from its geographical direction, stretching northward from Republic Square. The concept of Northern Avenue was first envisioned in 1924 by Alexander Tamanyan in Yerevan’s initial master plan. As a pedestrian street, Northern Avenue is one of the busiest streets in Yerevan, serving as a direct link between two of the city’s most significant squares: Republic Square and Freedom Square. Construction of the avenue began in 2001 and was completed in 2007."
