The pedestal of Aghitu monument is built of polished stones, where the remains of the dead are buired. A three-wing stele with gorgeous ornaments rises in the central part of the platform. The surrounding area is rich with archeological monuments, which prove that it was a pagan religious area. The structure was destroyed and a church was built on its site. A new church was built by King Smbat of Syunik in the place of the same church in the 10th-11th centuries, which was destroyed by fire.
