"The foundation and later prosperity of the Saint Sion Hermitage in the village of Herher was the result of the activities of the Shahurnetsi noble family, one of the minor princely houses of medieval Armenia. Built as a spiritual center, this religious complex remained active until the 14th century. The monastery, which was under the patronage of noble families for 600 years, received numerous donations. It is known that in 1349, the Gospel was copied here by Vahan Gritch."
