Sevan National Park was established in 1978 and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia. The park was created to protect the lake ecosystem, as well as endemic species of fish, plants, and animals. Among the bird species found here are the Armenian gull, red-crested pochard, mallard, black tern, red-billed grebe, white-tailed eagle, marsh harrier, and others. Other groups of wildlife in the park include numerous species of reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. The park’s territory is also rich in historical and cultural monuments, including Sevanavank, Hayravank, Vanevank, and the Noratus khachkar field, among others.
