Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Alexander Spendiaryan was founded in January 20, 1933. Chief Architect Alexander Tamanyan’s project won the Gold Medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937. The theater was founded in 1930, and the Philharmonic Hall named after Aram Khachatryan has been functioning since 1963. In 1938, the theater was named after Alexander Spendiaryan. In 1957, the theater received an academic title.
The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to National Opera and Ballet Theater by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country. Due to the geographical location of National Opera and Ballet Theater the trip will not seem long.

The first premiere of the opera “Almast” by A. A. Spendiarov was held at the Opera and Ballet Theater օn January 20, 1933.
