Bash Aparan’s memorial complex (1974-1979) is located in Aparan, Armenia. The monument was erected in memory of the Bash-Aparan battle (1918), when the heroic Armenian soldiers managed to defeat the Turkish invaders. The shape of the monument resembles three altars, united together. The first altar symbolizes the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide (1915), the second – the memory of the brave heroes of the Bash-Aparan battle, and the third is dedicated to the soldiers who fell in the Great Patriotic War. If you look at the monument from behind, you will notice that its outlines are similar to the silhouette of Mount Aragats, which is located near Aparan and symbolizes the courage and strength of the locals. Not far from the memorial is the grave of the legendary Armenian general Dro (Drastamat Kanayan), who commanded the Armenian forces in the Bash-Aparan battle. Under his command, Armenians twice repelled the attacks of the troops of the regular Turkish army.
