Lastiver is a unique place where the wonderful, fairy-tale Armenian nature and human handiwork are intertwined. This paradise is located in the gorge of the Khachaghbyur River in Tavush province, 3 km from Yenokavan village. There is a charming cozy corner, surrounded by dense forests; here you can admire the centuries-old caves, a beautiful waterfall and unique beautiful small huts and houses built on the trees which welcome and captivate their guests. The caves are located on the edge of a huge gorge, and people had built stairs from logs to climb there. These stairs were more like a raft (in Armenian raft is “last, lastanav”) than a ladder, and that made people to name this place Lastiver.
The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to Lastiver by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country. Due to the geographical location of Lastiver the trip will not seem long.
The high season in Armenia lasts for a long time due to the pleasant climate conditions. Warm days in Armenia start in March and last until late autumn; winter is usually snowless and not long. The high precipitation season is variable. The tourist season for Lastiver depends on the weather conditions.
According to another version of the origin of the name, people went up to the cave on a board, a wooden raft, which was raised with stretched ropes. Sitting on this board, a person, going up into the cave, shouted: "Lastni Ver!", that is “raise the raft”. Hearing the mentioned command and seeing that it is someone local, people pulled the rope to the entrance of the cave.
An unknown artist created a beautiful low relief on the walls of the cave situated here. It is supposed that the author presented a wedding. He created this masterpiece during his stay here as a hermit. This cave is also called "Anapat" (literally translated from Armenian as "desert").
This place seems to hide in a dark dense forest. Turbulent river, high trees and steep rocks give the local nature majestic view and create a unique fairy-tale atmosphere. The humid climate and white fluffy clouds that hover over the gorge slopes complement the beautiful nature. Here you will find a melodic waterfall.
