Kirants Monastery is located deep in the forest.

According to legend, a stonemason had a very talented apprentice who built this monastery all by himself. After completing it, he called his master to evaluate his first work. Seeing the magnificent structure, the master became envious and tried to find a flaw. After long contemplation, he finally said, ""The mortar has seeped through"" (meaning the work was imperfect). From this remark, the monastery was named ""Kirants"" (derived from ""kir"" meaning mortar).

Near the monastery was the large settlement of Mets Kunen, which was once a significant inhabited area.
