Azhdahak is a volcano in Armenia, the highest point of Gegham mountains. It is of 3,597 m above sea. There is lake in the crater of volcano Azhdahak that is formed from melting snow. An amazing landscape of mountains Ararat, Hatis, Ara, Aragats, Lake Sevan, the whole Gegham mountains and Kotayk valley opens from the top of the mountain. Another picturesque place in the surroundings of Azhdahak is a lake Akna of volcanic origin. “Akn” means “spring (water)” in Armenian.
The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to Azhdahak Mountain by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country. Due to the geographical location of Azhdahak Mountain the trip will not seem long.

In Iranian and Armenian mythology, Azhdahak is an evil dragon called Azhi Dahak, who fought against the God of thunder. The mythical character of the dragon is identified with Azhdahak, the king of Marastan, the enemy of King Tigran the Great. The struggle ended with a brilliant victory of Tigran the Great.
