About this tour
This tour will take you deep into history, along the paths of legends and traditions. Our journey begins with Hayravank Monastery, also known as Martaghavnyats. According to legend, it was here that the abbot Hovhan, with a relic of the Holy Cross, performed a miracle by turning captured Armenians into doves and setting them free.
Our next stop is Vanevan Monastery, the burial place of King Smbat I Bagratuni. Restored in the 10th century, it still preserves its historic grandeur.
The tour continues to Makenyats Monastery, one of the richest monastic complexes in Armenia, with 37 monuments, including the Church of the Holy Mother of God, medieval narthexes, an ancient cemetery, and fortified walls.
We finish our journey at the ancient Berdkunq Fortress, known as the “White Castle,” which dates back to the 2nd–1st millennia BC and later became a major medieval stronghold.
