The monastery of Saint Sarkis is a large monastic complex located not far from Ushi village in Aragatsotn province. The monastery is a well-known pilgrimage site and had been one of Armenia’s centers of religious education. Many well preserved examples of early Armenian architecture from different eras can be seen around the complex. The restoration work was carried out on the chapel in December 2003 to spring 2004, as well as recent archeological excavations have begun under the patronage of Archbishop Shahen Ajemian.
