TOP 7 ATTRACTIONS OF THE CITY OF JERMUK AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Since Soviet times, Jermuk is a popular climatic and balneological resort. Local thermal springs are known for healing mineral waters, and the air in these places is crystal clear and fresh. The surroundings of Jermuk are very picturesque in nature; there are green forests, blooming lawns, fast streams and beautiful waterfalls. Let us find out about the seven most famous sights of Jermuk city.

Jermuk Waterfall

Jermuk waterfall is one of the main local natural beauties and attractions. The waterfall falls through several ledges from a total height of 72 meters. Graceful trickles of water in shape resemble long girlish hair; therefore, Jermuk Falls received the poetic name “The Mermaid’s Hair”.

Gndevank Monastery

Gndevank is a medieval Armenian monastery built in the 10th century. According to historians, once the Princess of Syunik province Sophia (Sopia) was so captivated by the beauty of this place (near Jermuk city) that she wished to build a beautiful monastery here. The governess of Syunik did not spare her wealth, and the majestic Gndevank Monastery was erected in record time. The constructor and designer of the monastery is the outstanding artist Eghishe.

Healing Springs of Jermuk

The word “Jermuk” itself means “hot spring”. The thermal springs of Jermuk – the main local attraction – are located slightly above the city itself, in the mountains. The easiest way to get here is by SUVs. The road is not the smoothest, but believe it is worth it. The main thing is not to forget to grab a swimsuit and towel. Staying in natural hot baths will make you feel unusually fresh and “updated”.

Cable Car in Jermuk

The Jermuk cable car was opened relatively recently. It leads from the city to a green hill covered with flowers and mountain herbs. Tourists come up here to enjoy the panorama and take beautiful photos, and local residents often collect thyme and mint, which grow here.

Ark of the Fulfillment of Desires

The stone arch 15 meters high and 30 meters wide is a miraculous natural attraction. You can go down to the “Ark of the Fulfillment of Desires” along the stairs leading from the city through a gorge of fabulous beauty. Be sure to bring a camera with you, and do not forget to make a cherished desire!

Statue of Deer

A silver deer standing on a rock is the main symbol of Jermuk. According to the legend, once in these places a hunter wounded a deer with his arrow. The animal ran to a lake and rushed into the water. When the hunter approached the lake, he was surprised to see the deer coming out of the water healed and unharmed. So the power of the healing waters of Jermuk was revealed to people, and the deer became a symbol of the city.

The Arpa River

The Arpa is a turbulent mountain river on which the Kechut reservoir is located. The bank is perfect for walking and enjoying the picturesque natural landscape.
