Mount Hatis is located 2.5 km southeast of Kaputan village in Kotayk Province. It rises to 2,528 meters. The mountain has a conical shape, its slopes carved with deep gorges and rocky projections. The Karsunakh springs originate from its southern base. It is also known by other names: Hadis and Shamiram. The name Hadis corresponds to Hades, the Greek god of the underworld, symbolically linked to the dying and resurrecting god Ara. The name Shamiram reflects its position opposite Mount Ara, evoking the Ara the Beautiful and Queen Shamiram legend.
