Yerevan Lake (Yerevan Sea) is an artificial reservoir located in the south-west of Yerevan in the Hrazdan Gorge at a height of 908 meters. It was built in 1970 in the former village of Nor Koghb to regulate the flow of Hrazdan River and water usage.

According to the archaeologist Benik Yeritsyan, there are some remains of archaeological significant monuments under the lake. It is worth mentioning that there are caves (Yerevan Cave 1, 2, 3) located near the lake. Traces of the ancient canal Umeshin were also revealed under the lake. It is considered that it was the famous Urartian Canal, which irrigated the Echmiadzin gardens.
