The “Wings of Tatev” cableway was built under the “Tatev Revival” charitable initiative, launched by Ruben Vardanyan and Veronika Zonabend, aiming to support the restoration of Tatev Monastery and to promote community development in the Syunik region. The official opening of the cableway took place on October 16, 2010, and just a week later, on October 23, it was entered into the Guinness World Records as the longest reversible cableway in the world without stops. The total length of the route is 5,752 meters (3.57 miles), and construction was completed in just 10 months. Located in Syunik Province, “Wings of Tatev” connects the village of Halidzor to the Tatev Monastery with a safe, 12-minute aerial journey. The same trip by land could take up to 40 minutes. Each cabin holds up to 30 passengers and 1 attendant, with a total capacity of 240 passengers per hour. The final and longest stretch of the line—2.7 km—offers a breathtaking view of Tatev Monastery. All income from the cableway is directed toward the restoration of Tatev Monastery and the implementation of community social and economic programs. The project is non-commercial and serves as a model for sustainable development, combining the preservation of cultural heritage with tourism promotion.
