“Shikahogh” State Reserve is located in Syunik province, on the north-eastern slope of Khustup mountain and in the upper ponds of Shikahogh and Tsav Rivers at altitudes of 700-2800m. It has been created for the protection of oak, hornbeam, beech, taxus, platanus forests and animals. The reserve area has a very fragmented relief. There are many mineral springs as well as mountain rivers.
The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to "Shikahogh" State Reserve by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country. Due to the geographical location of "Shikahogh" State Reserve the trip will not seem long.
The high season in Armenia lasts for a long time due to the pleasant climate conditions. Warm days in Armenia start in March and last until late autumn; winter is usually snowless and not long. The high precipitation season is variable. The tourist season for "Shikahogh" State Reserve depends on the weather conditions.
“Shikahogh State Reserve” - State Non-Commercial Organization carries out all activities related to the study of natural ecosystems, genetic resources, landscape and biological diversity, protection of the natural heritage, restoration and accounting of natural resources. The powers of this organization include the management of the state reserves “Plane tree Grove” and “Zangezur”.
