Kotavank was built by Prince Grigor Supan in 851-901. The village was called Kot in the past, and was the administrative center. It is built of fractured basalt. The entrances are from the west and the south. There are ruins of monastic cells and other buildings in the yard. The dome and roof are broken.

Facts

Kotavank is one of the valuable monuments of medieval Armenia, which, unfortunately, is half-ruined these days (reconstruction works were carried out in 1982-1986, which, however, were not completed). The structure of the church is one of the achievements of the medieval architecture of Syunik.
