There is a valley called Katarot or Jdrduz on the edge of Shoushi, at the very top of the cliffs. With a gorgeous view to the gorge and the picturesque Karkar River valley, this place has become one of the most favorite and visited places for tourists in Artsakh. Walking in the gorge offers visitors unforgettable impressions of the magnificent scenery and gorge. The field is about 5 hectares. The majority of visitors come here in the afternoon, but starry nights are beautiful and fairy.
The well-established transport infrastructure of Armenia allows to get to Katarot Canyon by a private car or with the help of various travel companies which offer regular excursions and tours to different sights of the country. Due to the geographical location of Katarot Canyon the trip will not seem long.
The high season in Armenia lasts for a long time due to the pleasant climate conditions. Warm days in Armenia start in March and last until late autumn; winter is usually snowless and not long. The high precipitation season is variable. The tourist season for Katarot Canyon depends on the weather conditions.
Katarot was never fenced and outdoor classes were organized for schoolchildren during Soviet times.
