Park
The Dendropark was established in 1931. Its founder was the Polish scientist Edmon Leonowicz, in whose honor the park is named. The park occupies an area of about 35 hectares, of which 17.5 hectares is natural forest, and about 15 hectares is planted with decorative tree species. The park is located at an altitude of 1450 meters above sea level and has a temperate cold climate, with about 550 mm of annual precipitation. From December to March, the area is covered with snow, which significantly affects the vegetation growing in the park. The park contains both local and introduced plant species. It features more than 500 plant species, which have adapted over the years after testing around 2500 species brought from various climates. The main plants were brought from the Yerevan Botanical Garden, as well as from Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, and other countries. There are also plant species imported from Europe—Germany, France, Portugal—as well as from China and the USA. The park’s collection includes both wild species and cultivated hybrids, providing the opportunity to simultaneously study local adaptation, resilience, and growth dynamics․
