Due to its high position the dome of St. Hovhannes Church is visible from almost all parts of Shushi city. The Church is famous as “Kanach Jam”, for the green color of the dome; “kanach” is literally translated from Armenian as green and “Jam” means chapel. According to the construction protocol, the church was built in 1818. It was architectural innovation at that time. The Green Chapel is distinguished by its unique interior design that makes it unrepeatable in the ranks of similar architectural structures.
