New Year’s Eve is one of Georgia’s favourite holidays. Many events take place in almost every city in the country, but Tbilisi is certainly the epicentre of the festivities. In fact, the special atmosphere begins to be felt as early as mid-December. Georgian people call this period “the season of Satsivi”, after the popular Georgian dish which is served on every New Year’s Eve table. The Georgian capital transforms around the holiday season, lit up in bright lights. You can find originally decorated “Instagram spots” for spectacular photo shoots everywhere. On New Year’s Eve a big gala concert takes place on the Republic Square, and it culminates in a colourful firework display. Various festivities continue until the old New Year’s Eve, on 14 January.
