Khoranashat Monastery was founded in the middle of the 13th century under the patronage of Vahramian princes. Khoranashat Monastery was the center of literacy. Dozens of manuscripts (mostly from the 13th century) written there have reached our days. Khoranashat’s catechism was a high level establishment with historiography, where they studied for 7-8 years. The monastery is partly ruined. The monastery complex is composed of St. Astvatsatsin church, the narthex, a small church, ruins of the chapel on the eastern side, gravestones and a large winged khachkar.

Facts

There is a solar clock on the southern wall of the main church of Khoranashat monastery.

The altar of St. Astvatsatsin church has 10 semicircular niches, in connection with which the monastery got its name.
