Handaberd fortress is located near Knaravan village. The height of the fortress wall reaches 8 m, and the thickness is 1.3 m. The Fortress occupies an almost rectangular area of 92 x 60 m. The outer wall is reinforced with high towers. There are ruins of rectangular construction on the territory of the fortress, which, as well as the entire fortress, is made of local untreated stone. You can see the hollowed “reservoirs” that served to collect and store rainwater. Once the depth of “stone reservoirs” reached 5 meters and some of them were much deeper in ancient times. There are many architectural monuments not far from the fortress, during the study of which inscriptions relating to Handaberd were found.

A number of metal and clay items were discovered during the excavations. Among the metal objects are: a key from a lock, cufflinks, horseshoe, various forging tools, ax, rope, knife, copper bells, etc; among the ceramics – a large number of jugs, kitchen pots and fragments of cups.
