The State Geological Museum named after Grigory Gabrielyants was opened in 2014. Here are geological items from all over Artsakh, mainly minerals and various minerals. The oldest is 146 million years old. The museum presents geological items brought from all over the world, the oldest of which is 1 billion 200 million years old. The collection of the museum has 400 samples from 48 countries of the Russian Federation, mostly samples from Gabrielyants’ personal collection.

Limestone is one of the most important stones presented in Artsakh. According to the guide Eugenia Hambardzumyan, most of the buildings of Stepanakert, the capital of Artsakh, are built of limestone.

One of the most interesting exhibits stored here are the "Stone Stars". The geological map of Artsakh indicates that millions of years ago this territory was completely covered by water and was part of the World Ocean.

The museum also presents an "amethyst" stone. People call the stone "intoxicate", believing that the stone protects its owner from drunkenness. People in ancient times carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication.
