The history of Yerevan dates back to 782 BCE with the founding of the Urartian fortress-city of Erebuni. A visit to the Erebuni Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve offers a deep understanding of Yerevan’s history and culture. The museum's extensive collection includes over 12,000 archaeological artifacts from the sites of Arin-Berd, Karmir Blur, and Shengavit, as well as various regions of Armenia, covering pre-Urartian, Urartian, Achaemenid, Hellenistic, and early Armenian periods.

Facts

Among the most significant exhibits is the first Urartian cuneiform inscription about the founding of Erebuni, discovered in 1879 at the foot of the Arin-Berd hill.

The museum-reserve is a well-known Urartology center in the region, housing unique artifacts that are invaluable for both exhibitions and scientific research.

Many artifacts from the museum’s collection have been exhibited in prestigious cultural institutions such as the Louvre (France), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (USA), the Hermitage Museum (Russia), and the British Museum (UK)."
